Kia ora,

As of 1 January, Careerforce has now formally transitioned [out of Te Pūkenga] into the Education, Health and Community Industry Skills Board (ISB), where we continue to operate as a distinct division, ensuring continuity of service and support for the employers and learners we serve.

Alongside this transition, we have also adopted a new organisational structure for Careerforce, designed to deliver improved outcomes for both employers and learners. Within Careerforce, new teams have come together, including an Employer Partnerships team focused exclusively on the needs of our employers, and a Learner Success team focused exclusively on learners. You can find out more about these teams below.

As part of these changes within Careerforce, responsibilities of the previous Moderation and Assessment Practice Team have moved into newly formed teams. Assessment related responsibilities have moved into the new Employer Capability Development team that resides within the Employer Partnerships team, and moderation responsibilities have moved into the new Quality, Compliance & Evaluation team. You can read more about these teams below.

Please note that enrolment processes, and all learner, assessor and employer functions continue as usual, as do our contact details.

We will continue working with the moderators, now known as Quality Assurance Advisors.

They are:

The Employer Capability Development Team appreciates all the support and guidance you give to your Trainees. If we can help or support you further, please remember we are only ever a phone call or email away.

Your annual moderation for 2026
All Careerforce assessors are required to go through an annual registration review. Part of this review is to ensure that each assessor successfully participates in annual moderation.

Moderation will be managed by the Quality Assurance Team to ensure greater integrity and consistency.

We have made a change for 2026 in terms of the process of moderation selection:
For Aka-Toi based assessments;
  • You no longer need to submit assessment samples; we will select them for you.
If you are assessing paper-based assessments;
  • We will be in contact to ask you what we would like you to send us.

Academic misconduct among learners – Plagiarism and the Copyleaks Report
Academic misconduct - When a learner presents assessment evidence that is not their own, gathered from another learner’s work, online resources (including generative AI), or any other sources.

Copyleaks has been embedded within Aka Toi for 5 months now, and we hope it has helped support your judgement when it comes to learner authenticity within their assessments.

To ensure integrity is upheld, if an assessment has a significant plagiarism score, please review it by accessing the report and escalating to the Quality Assurance Team if a COPYLEAKS SHARED DATA HUB result is identified.

We have created a short video showing what happens when Copyleaks detects a match with a previous submission—essentially, where plagiarism may have occurred because a learner copied another learner’s assessment.

When reviewing reports, look for significant or consistent patterns throughout an assessment where the COPYLEAKS SHARED DATA HUB is identified. This hub stores all past submissions from 1 September 2024 onward.

When this appears, make sure to:

  • Double-check the learning guide
    The content may come from there, as a previous learner might have used it too. While this is still not acceptable, you can address it yourself and proceed with the first warning process. Managing Academic Misconduct - Careerforce - Qualifications for Life. Skills for Good
  • Check their previous submissions
    We can verify if the content came from a related assessment of theirs. If you don’t have access, let us know—we’ll make that check.
  • Don’t jump to conclusions
    Always check with us before addressing this with the learner

To register a Copyleaks Internal Match for a learner, log into you iportal account - click on the Academic Misconduct tab on the right-hand bar – scroll down to the third form to fill out and submit. This will escalate the instance to the Quality Assurance team.

We value and rely on your integrity to ensure all learners are adequately qualified to support the vulnerable in your communities.
