Qualification and Programme Overview

This programme aims to provide additional knowledge and skills required to provide person-centred or relationship-centred care and support to people with complex needs.

The programme includes both recognising and developing the following competencies in your staff: 

  • Working collaboratively with members of a multi-disciplinary team and the whānau and family of a person with complex needs to support the person’s health and wellbeing.
  • Supporting registered health professionals by carrying out delegated clinical tasks in a health or wellbeing setting.
  • Applying knowledge of health or wellbeing conditions and organisational processes to implement culturally appropriate person-centred/relationship-centred approaches to
    care for and support a person with complex needs in a health and wellbeing setting.
  • Communicating effectively in a culturally appropriate manner, including preparing and delivering reports and recording information as required by the organisation, and
    engaging in challenging conversations, in a health or wellbeing setting.
  • Applying leadership skills in a health or wellbeing setting by formal or informal mentoring
    and/or coaching of colleagues.

What is the pre-requisite to enrol?

Applications for this qualification will need to provide evidence of the following:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) or an equivalent qualification or experience in the health and wellbeing sectors
  • Complete the entry requirements form for the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4) (Advanced Care and Support).

You need to be working within the aged care sector, home & community support sector or in a hospital setting, meet the criteria set out above and have the support of your employer to be able to enrol.

If the work visa covers the duration of the programme and the employer supports the enrolment, then yes they can enrol.

Trainees need to complete their current programme and then enrol into the Advanced Care and Support programme. They will then complete the remaining Advanced Care and Support unit standards.
